Due to the rising number of malicious and misguided messages, this 'Guestbook' has evolved into a messageboard that has limited access. In order to use this you need to register with the Rodillians Online author. Unfortunately this is not an automated process. Please email me with your suggested user name (this doesn't have to be your real name), a password you would like to use, and your own email address. I shall, ASAP, return your email and confirm you are able to use the Messageboard.
Once you have a password, you will be able to leave unlimited messages including with an alias. I will though be able to log and view which user has left the message. This will, hopefully, enable those who have an interest in Rods to leave messages while preventing destructive messages being left.
For those who enjoyed leaving the odd message, I apologise for the inconvienience this has caused. The world appears full of dick-heads and Rods Online have had their fair share in the recent past.

I presume that my first insertion did not go in, I will try again I am trying to get in touch with Kevin Shenton, can he please ring me on 077098 77276. Kevin apparantly there is a Sponsors day at Rods on 4th March 06, perhaps you can attend. I found out through Mr Place who lives in Wick (Near Norway)it seems that the present committee have not bothered to inform any one except their own old drinking cronies that this event is on, obviously this also gets them more free drinks. I have lost count of the times certain Veteran Committee members have slagged off other members for non attendance at social events, perhaps they should look at themselves for reasons why this occurs.

Martyn/Mike Could one of you kindly let the powers that be know that it is highly likely that I will have to cross off on Saturday. At Ray's request, a few notes on Saturday's game...No need to say 'good game' or 'well done', we all know we played well and deserved the win. The score line, I think flattered us a little, I thought it was alot closer than it suggested. The real gap apprearing in the last ten minutes when Leo's heads went down, or perhaps I'm being negative and it was our superior fitness. We were lucky with their number 11 going off injured, with him on the pitch it could have been very different, some changes would have had to have been made. Just a point on the kicking, I know a few of the kicks through did lead ultimately to tries or gained yardage, but they also lost us quite alot of our ball. I think we should see kicking when on the attack as a second option rather than the first. If we have the ball in our hands they cannot score, its as simple as that. We did have a worrying period for 10 minutes in the second half where we seemed to take our foot off the peddle, Our back line ceased to exist and the forwards seemd to lose the will. A better side would have punished us, they really would. We went to sleep and could easily have lost it. Sorry if I seem to dwell on the nagatives, but the positives are there for all to see so I don't need to go into them in any detail. Lee was inspirational and will be a key player no doubt about that. Cully continues to set a fine example and somehow seems nearly always first to the breakdowns and the catcher from kick off. Come on forwards he's fifty!! We have suffered in recent games from lack of front row players, so Chris, remember, if you scratch it can be a real problem for us. Pete, Carl, both well done, Carl, have a word with Chris Jones (good game on saturday, in a young side such as our the experience is priceless)or Chay or Nick about second rowing, you've obviously got the jumping sorted but we need to be a bit more solid in the scrum. Pete, EAT SOME FOOD.....Howard try to make as many games as you can, you're another key player who is missed when not there......All in, good game lads, lets hope our next fixture is again against opposition of a similar standard to ourselves and we don't go back to simply being someone elses entertainment on a saturday afternoon.

From: Martyn

I think most people who take the time to read these pages at least have the wit to remember that those who fail to leave their names don't really get a look-in as far as opinions are concerned.
I DID play in the first team on Saturday (for want of a better description). I don't know of one player who was proud of their performance. It was bad. The week before was bad as well. Nobody enjoys playing badly and I don't think anyone enjoys losing (apart from the England cricket team, who are used to it now).
As a team and a club we cannot expect to improve from Saturday to Saturday. We must train together on Tuesday and Thursday nights. We had a very good run up to the season but the training numbers dropping off does coincide with the first teams performance.
Let's try and get a few things in perspective.
1. We are amateurs and play for enjoyment.
2. We DO play better together when we train together.
3. Two matches do not make (or break) a season.
We have four training sessions before we meet Barnsley. Come up on Tues/Thurs and prove you want to do well for yourself and your club.
And, most importantly, great game on Saturday second XV - a well deserved victory!

We all play for Fun on a Saturday, I suspect for some players having read the comments below, that the fun element is starting to dissapear. We all have bad games as a team from time to time, and it's up to the players to put things right on the training pitch and on the following Saturday.

So stop whinging, get to training, and we might just win something this season. As for the chay thing i've played with him and dont know what your problems are? Those of you talking about his lineout game being shit are all talkin rubbish. The lineout depends on the lifters jumpers and throwers, and to be honest, none of us are doin a good enough job. Not being one to involve myself in all this petty squabbling, but isn't it time we actually all got behind the club be it 1st or 2nds. This is the first time in several seasons that any real competition within the club has been around in any position, and whilst people including myself do not want to spend week in week out either on the bench or in the 2nds, the situation can only be good for the club. We have had one loss in the first team and have been matched against sides beyond us in the 2nds, surely this is not time to start all this bickering but to encourage players in both XV's that we put out. At the end of the day we ought to be trying to get back to the old days when we were getting 3 and 4 teams out every week. As for slagging individual players I find that disconcerting in that we all have good games and bad games whatever level and generally we all know when we have played well or poorly, we do not need half wits hiding behind pseudonyms to tell us of our shortcomings. If the club is to succeed in both growing and progressing to higher leagues - both of which we are more than capable of, then it is about time we started fostering the club spirit on and off the field and left the criticism and selection to those tasked with that role otherwise we will lose players at all levels which we can neither afford or want to do. End of rant it's just about time one or two people that seem to be hell bent on causing ruptions within the club either grew up or fucked off. As for last Saturday there were 17 of us in the squad who all played badly, and nobody should be singled out from that performance, however what we should be looking at is the positives in that alot of character was shown especially in the last 10 to 15 when we actually begam to play a little.

Rods (UN)observer, nope Roy isn't me. I would use the C word and do. But nope it ain't me. I usually like to post under the JohnLawtonLoungeBand or other John Lawton related name. As far as Chay goes I am a friend of his and when we sort our line-out out he will return as the one true master. But blaiming chay for our lack of possession from the line-out is a bit short sighted, all 8 forwards are at fault. Me especially. It's not just about catching its the whole shooting match, lifting, catching, throwing, position, decision making, attitude. On an entirely different note, what for me, yesterday was a top day was somewhat marred by some toe rag deciding to steal my newly aquired gum shield from my bag and use as a plaything. 35 down the effing pan. Whats the deal there then. I hope the thing turns up as I really don't want to be dipping into my pocket again. From: John L
Date: September 22, 2003
Well done again second team. Another good performance, this time in very frustrating circumstances. We were let down by cry off's and the first team taking a few of ours. Can I ask first teamers who fancy a rest because its a friendly to take into consideration the fact that this can lead to the seconds putting out a weakened team (as on sturday) or at worst not being able to field a team at all. I have no doubt whatsoever that if we hadn't lost John Snee we would not have conceeded that try. They only began to take control once we were down to 14 men. Well stuck at it boys, if we carry on playing like this then we're really going to spank someone soon. Don't forget the two teams we've played have, on paper, been much better teams who've turned up expecting to give us a tonking and gone away thinking themselves lucky that they scraped a win. Heads up. Full turn out next week for Hessle. I know its a fair way but its all M62 so it won't take long to get there. Lets bring our first win of the season hope. I've real confidence in this team but we've yet to show what we're cabable of.

From: John L
Date: September 19, 2003
I hear what you're all saying, but I really think we have to treat this weekend as a 'one off', it was originally intended as a squad game but looks as though we'll have enough to field two teams (which I'd much prefer and so will anyone who played with the seconds last week. We were good and there is a good spirit this year instilled by players such as Heath, Al, and a few others). Of the second rows available, were I sat on selection I would have no hesitation in selecting peach for the firsts. Carl will in time no doubt be a good player, and on his day can put in match turning performance. But at the moment he is not experienced enough to play in the scrum for the firsts. Roy says 'give him a try' whats the point in having carl and a few other sat on the bench for the firsts and that meaning the seconds can't play for lack of players?? Come on guys, some common sense thats all it is. If selection can put out two competitive teams week in week out then they're doing their job as far as I'm concerned. Carl and others will get their chance as the season goes on as players become injured or need resting. As for your accusation that the rest of the firsts would blame a second teamer playing his first match for a mistake which cost them a game, then I don't buy that. One player cannot loose a game all by himself and I think most players have the intelligence to realise that. Anyway, the seconds are looking good this year, I'm certainly enjoying it, and if the firsts think they can poach any of our lot then they can think again. This year.........'we're on a mission from God'. (Blues Brothers 1982)

Even though we had a loss on Saturday, I think the 2nds played really well against a side which at first looked as though they were going to walk it. Other than a few minor errors it was a very good performance and if we can take that kind of determination, grit, belief and commitment into our remaining games, there won't be many sides able to beat us. Our backs were more than a match for Huddersfield, with our weakness being their stronger, better drilled and more experienced pack. Well done one and all. lets see these same players turning out next time and it won't be long before we get our just reward.

Let's hope that another season of success is ahead of you - can I book my place on Mr Lewis's and Mr Vasey's table now please?PS: Where is the end of season tour this year?

Al- the reasons posted regarding the 2nd team selections are indeed correct, but we were also light in other areas of the pack. It made taking this particular fixture untenable. I hope like hell that those players unavailable this week return on mass and provide the necessary numbers for the two's. A few second team regulars have either called it a day or gone underground. I think we have the numbers to replace them and many of these replacements are too be found at training which should benefit our cohesion and team spirit. Fatha Saynor had a very sad face about calling off the game, but made the only move on offer. It's week 1 of the season so we should improve the position quickly.

As an avid viewer on the guestbook, I watch with amusement as the story builds. Mike : Concur wholeheartedly - with the odd personal preference missed, this is a strong 18 and will do the club proud on Saturday. No doubt the committee thought long and hard about the format of the team and how it would gel together. Equally I can understand the frustration of others. People who train, and I ignore fitness for this point, will know the line out calls, will have endured some of the knocks of the first two squad games and equally are showing their loyalty to the club by putting money over the bar at the end of training. Losing the 2nd team game is personally disappointing. If it is not solely a front row issue then I would ask that Martyn is given clearer guidance regarding his website update to avoid this confusion in future. A good and strong 2nd Team will cause the selection committee headaches for all the right reasons. It is up to the regulars to ensure we have at least 35 people available each weekend.Back to my viewing now, thanks for listening.

Fair play to you John L i like your style. Roy I see your just as irritating as last season and we havn't even passed a ball in anger yet. Sven stick to football, I guess if only 4 selections are causing you angst then the other 14 must be OK. Thats a pretty good start. With regards to the peach, go easy... a week in week out commitment to the club from a front 5 forward like John will only help the club get 2 teams out each week A.S.A.P. The second teams unavailability ran a little deeper than the front row this week, so lets dig our boots out not stand around sharpening the knives. I'm really looking forward to saturday and hope whether your playing, supporting or drinking you have a good one. Lets show every team that visit 'the fortress' we know how to play and support our Rugby. Don't hide behind the guestbook with negative comments, have the bollocks to put your name down.

If the distance involved is indeed too great then why doesnt Howard secure himself a spot in the first team by simply not training and then turning up on a Saturday and expecting to be picked.

From: JohnL
Date: July 31, 2003
I can confirm that the Duck is comtemplating not playing this season due mainly to the distance. However I am working on him and I'm sure that as soon as we start playing again (and not to mention the World Cup in October) he'll start missing it and return to take up his position. With regard to myself stepping into his boots so to speak. Roy you obviously haven't been up to traing much, as if you had you would know that although I won't be seen at second row next year, in an attempt to bring some much needed glamour and panache into the forwards, I will be taking station at openside flanker. (all being well and my cheque to Neil not bouncing)

John, why not train with the forwards. The 2nd team are constantly short, particulary in the front five. There's no reason why you can't play in the pack anywhere you want. We need more players like you wanting to put there bodies on the line.

Ok guys, serious question so serious comments only would be appreciated. I was thinking about try to fill to gap left by Jack at Hooker, but now it looks like Bids is back so it obviously makes sense for him to step in. So, I really don't want to spend another season on the wing, I'd much rather be playing in the forwards, (or if thats not possible then as near to the action as I can be). so has anyone any suggestions? Again, serious comments only please.
