"Play RUGBY" Recruitment Campaign Underway

See Rodillians Adverts in Yorkshire Evening Post and Yorkshire Sport

Play Rugby Campaign imageRodillians players and committee are working hard to encourage young and old players to come down to Manley Park in Stanley (between Leeds and Wakefield) to take up or continue their rugby career.
An advertising campaign with the slogan "Play RUGBY" is now underway. Posters will be placed in schools, colleges and places of work to raise the profile of Stanley Rodillians in the Leeds, Wakefield and surrounding districts.
No matter what your level of experience, we have a team to suit you:

  • Deadly serious? Come training and aim for First XV rugby.
  • Inexperienced but eager? See you Tuesday night for training, learn your trade and play Second XV rugby.
  • Gnarled and looking back on a great career? The newly formed Legends Gold team is set up just for you!

Players - Help the Club

We have the same "Play RUGBY" posters available to print off and display in your own place of work, local newsagents or chip shop. Just click on the link(s) below to select either poster (will display up to A4 size).

We are always looking for new players, those who are new to the Wakefield and Leeds area, or those who have always thought they might have a go at something new. We have a great club spirit and welcome all players or potential players irrespective of experience. We can guarantee you will enjoy the social life Rods brings, with resident Bar Steward Rich Mine's Paid On Vasey.

If, after reading this website you think you might be interested in joining Rodillians, we suggest you come down to ManleyPark to view the facilities and a training session. If you would like more information then contact us using the form below, or email (click email on the bar to your left).

Through word of mouth and telephone calls there have already been a number of players old and new (please see squad list) who have expressed an interest in playing.
We have not contacted everyone yet, so if you want to play, or know anyone who may be interested, let us know by ringing the club (01924-823619) and leaving a message for Ian Strickland, or e-mailing legends@rodillians.co.uk.

New to Training

Rods are committed to ensuring that the best coaching is available to all players. In line with this there are a number of players registered for coaching courses this summer (2006) and alongside the Head Coach Gary Demaine, will be looking at taking some of the pressure off the coaching roles. We also regularly obtain constructive input from Leeds Tykes and England Students fly-half Richard Vasey Jnr.

John Wray

Training nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 7:00pm until 9:00pm with the bar open afterwards. Those who may think they are too young for open age rugby should visit the juniors section, while those who feel they are just not fit or lack experience in this type of game, then come down. Many of us didn't start playing rugby until we were 'mature'.
The club currently boasts three qualified coaches, including one who is qualified to train junior rugby. The forwards coach is Gary Demaine who is enjoying a glittering rugby career. He has previously played for West Park Bramhope and has a Yorkshire cap.
Jon Wray is the fitness and backs coach. His career has included both rugby codes, playing for Bath and also league teams such as Castleford Tigers, Hull KR and our very own Wakefield Trinity. Richard Vasey Snr is our junior coach and is proud owner of a shower cap.

If there are any players who are without a club at the moment or are thinking of having a go at rugby union then feel free to contact the club by phone (Tuesdays or Thursdays are best) or even come down and look at the facilities.

Alternatively you can e-mail me for further details.
